Ireland’s women finished second in Pool C after a tough loss to New Zealand at the weekend. There are a few knocks to manage, but all eyes are on next weekend’s quarter-final against France.
Ireland’s men are already qualified for Australia 2027, having secured automatic entry by finishing in the top three of their pool at the 2023 World Cup.
Canada men: back on the biggest stage in 2027
Canada booked their 2027 Rugby World Cup place by reaching the 2025 Pacific Nations Cup semi-finals. With Fiji and Japan already in from 2023, the top three other PNC teams qualify. Canada made the cut.
It’s a major milestone after missing the 2023 World Cup; Canada had appeared at every tournament from 1987 through 2019 and now becomes the 21st team confirmed for 2027. The World Cup 2027 event features an expanded 24-team format (six pools of four, then a round of 16) and runs 1 Oct – 13 Nov 2027 across Australia.

The women – joint congratulations
Joint congrats to Canada’s and Ireland’s women’s teams. Canada topped Pool B after a 40–19 win over Scotland, with Tyson Beukeboom becoming Canada’s most-capped player in the same match. Ireland have also sealed a quarter-final place — superb work from both squads.
